From the Essay “The Savage & The Saint”

“Our friends will last with us a season or centennial, they will act as the carriers of kindred moments, and as the mirrors reflected on our acts of malevolence, that would otherwise be left to let decay the herald of our consciousness.

Inevitably and as if in the reverse chronology of the order we met, we each begin to rise into the “definite-indefinite”, at very most becoming fading embers, hardly visible beyond the harsh jet-black realities, and the countless streaks of neon afterglow of these many, many artificial New York City lights”

This is a photograph of my friend Walter, he’s one of my New York City heroes…somedays anyhow…on the days he’s kicking arse & taking names he’s just my buddy, my mate, one more commiserating-confidant- The photographer Mr. Cessna, being his usual self.

However it’s on the days that I see him, waifish & weary, his flesh toned armor looking lived in as ever before, when he appears nearly all blood & guts, remnants of spirit & anger & a resonant conflict bound by nothing more then gravity…Those are the days that I glance over & I see a hero, someone who belongs to this city as much as this city belongs to him.
